Shush modern family3/5/2023 He believes that the real embodiment of Lily’s Vietnamese identity lies in the nation’s cultural traditions and food. Cam is trying to assert Lily’s authenticity by raising her in her “Asian heritage” and feeding her Pho. This scene depicts authenticity, or the idea that there is a genuine or “real” embodiment of a racial or cultural identity. Miura by bowing to her when she leaves the room, which she is visibly annoyed about. Cam makes one more attempt at proving himself to Dr. Miura’s defense is that she’s Japanese, while pho is a Vietnamese dish, so really there’s as much chance that she would know how to pronounce it as any other Caucasian person. Miura’s defensive answer stating that she’s from Denver so she wouldn’t know. Cam continues saying that he will feed Lily pho when she’s able to eat solid food, and asks Doctor Miura if he’s pronouncing it correctly. Mitchell is obviously uncomfortable and embarrassed by Cam’s forwardness and tries to shush his partner, but Cam will have none of it. Miura how “cultured” he is, and shares that he plans to raise Lily in her Asian heritage. Cam is extremely excited and feels the need to show Dr. At the hospital, their doctor just so happens to be Asian and upon noticing this fact, Cam and Mitchell have two very different reactions. In the sixth episode of Season 1, Cam and Mitchell, the two dads, take their daughter Lily to the hospital after accidentally bumping her head on the ceiling. The two gay dads adopt a Vietnamese baby in the first episode, and from there hilarity ensues with their learning at how to raise an Asian baby while keeping her engrossed in her culture and heritage.
